David O’Brien practiced as an architect before joining the University of Melbourne and completing a PhD investigating community development projects in rural Thailand. In 2008 he initiated the Bower Studio program taking teams of architecture students to design and construct culture, health and education facilities with Indigenous people in remote Australia and Papua New Guinea.
